India got a new Picasso!
Mr. Arackaparambil Kurien Antony (A. K. Antony) has an impeccable record of being an honest minister. Two years back I had seen him on television saluting Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate on Republic Day, wearing worn out sweater. I thought he must be very down to earth person, moreover he is never seen on TV giving news bites. Nowadays some strange news is surfaced on internet, print and electronic media that his wife Elizabeth Antony has become a new face of Indian art. Though she doesn’t has any page on wikipedia but her eight paintings has been sold out to Airport Authority of India to an exorbitant price of ₹ 28 crores (don’t dare to laugh please). India Today, a leading news magazine from India has removed the link from its website which has heading as “₹ 28 cr for paintings made by Defence Minister’s wife! Now that’s a stroke of genius : North, News – India Today –
The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has purchased eight paintings of Elizabeth Antony, wife of defence minister A K Antony, for an undisclosed sum and intends to display the paintings at select airports in the country….”
There is one clarification on a page created for her highness Elizabeth Antony on facebook which says that – “I am posting this message after seeing some rumors circulating in the internet about an art exhibition held on December 2-5th, 2011. The painting exhibition in question was held at India Habitat Center and had a total of 24 art exhibits. The paintings were sold for a cumulative sum of ₹ 16 lakhs. The controversial painting circulated in news and social media was not sold to Airport Authority of India and was sold to a private art collector for a figure of ₹ 95,000. AAI had brought 4 paintings for a total of ₹ 2.5 lahks. Navoothan Charitable Foundation have maintained all the records and bills of all our financial transactions in the most professional manner and the proceeds are used entirely for cancer cause. What is being seen is a politically motivated defamation and sensationalist journalism on a very noble cause. (Posted on behalf of Mrs. Elizabeth Antony by Vice President, NCF).”
I have very high regard for the first couple of Indian Defence force (not farce). I plead them to auction my painting (self-portrait) which I painted five years back, even ₹ 100/- would be a satisfying amount to me. Please don’t laugh on my painting, one man’s Art is Fart for others but please don’t laugh.
Disclaimer: Photograph and paintings of eminent personalities are used to sustain my hope in the democracy (not democrazy) of Republic of India. We the people of India are every time ready to forget the old scams whenever new will surface.
